Becoming a Member

Since 1954, the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities has been the leading voice for long-term care in Kentucky. KAHCF provides its members with timely, reliable, and concise information on a variety of issues. We are proud to represent Kentucky's finest long-term care professionals – part of an elite group that does so much good for Kentucky’s long-term care patients.

Long-term care professionals face many challenges. KAHCF staff is always available to listen to your concerns and to do whatever it takes to help you resolve issues. We are constantly thinking of ideas that can make your career in long-term care a little easier and more fulfilling.

Over the years, KAHCF has grown in size and scope. Here are just some of the services provided to members:

Comprehensive Legislative & Public Policy Representation
One of the most beneficial services provided by KAHCF is shaping public policies to affect meaningful change through well-planned, coordinated legislative efforts. Through our various committees and task forces, KAHCF members identify emerging issues and help guide our lobbying efforts in Frankfort.

KAHCF government relations staff monitors legislation and regulatory issues for their potential impact upon our membership. They keep all members notified of the latest developments in the legislative and regulatory process and generate grassroots activities when necessary. Our national affiliate, the American Health Care Association (AHCA), provides similar services at the federal level, representing your interests before the U.S. Congress and various federal agencies.

KAHCF's Political Action Committee (KAHCF-PAC) encourages members to be proactive politically and provides educational programs and opportunities to meet with legislators in Frankfort and at home to discuss emerging policy issues. KAHCF-PAC monitors the state's political climate and raises funds to support candidates for public office who support effective, adequately financed quality care.

In this era of constrained federal and state resources, KAHCF’s primary public policy goal is to ensure that long-term health care providers are afforded the resources necessary to deliver quality health care services to their patients. Through the development of a distribution methodology that ensured inflationary payment increases to all participating providers, as well as reserving funds to increase the payment levels of providers moving toward their targeted “price,” KAHCF’s leaders ensured payment equity among providers. KAHCF’s reimbursement strategies are designed to promote fairness and sensitivity to all providers in these challenging economic times. Preserving our unity is a hallmark of your Association.

KAHCF continues to work collaboratively with Kentucky’s Office of the Inspector General to ensure that the Informal Dispute Resolution (“IDR”) process, developed with input from KAHCF and other organizations and adopted by the state, remains fair and equitable for providers. We also meet monthly with Cabinet for Health and Family Services officials to ensure that our members’ regulatory, survey, and enforcement concerns are addressed and resolved promptly. By developing and maintaining strong relationships with state and federal officials, we work in partnership to achieve quality of care and quality of life for our residents, and fairness and reasonableness for our KAHCF members.

Organized Member Support Network
KAHCF membership is comprised of geographically designated districts throughout the state. Throughout the year, the five districts meet to conduct KAHCF business and to discuss pertinent long-term care issues. These district meetings provide time to network with peers, and receive important updates from KAHCF staff members and other presenters.

Timely Educational Seminars
Fulfilling the continuing education needs of Kentucky’s long-term care professionals is an essential service provided to KAHCF’s membership. In today’s dynamic professional environment, KAHCF has endeavored to identify, develop, and offer a wide variety of innovative and relevant educational opportunities that truly satisfy the educational needs of our members and their staffs. The programs are planned by the Education/Convention Committee, which identifies timely needs of the profession.

In addition to the offerings at our Annual Meeting and Spring Training, KAHCF offers a number of educational programs throughout the year including: New Administrator Training, New Director of Nurse Training, RAI/MDS Basic and Advanced Training Programs, State Training Course for Activity Coordinators, Nurse Aide Training “Method of Instruction” Course, plus a number of freestanding seminars on the current “hot” topics in long-term care.

Vital Information Exchange
KAHCF publishes the most up-to-date information to guide you through this ever-changing profession. Members Only is a bi-weekly electronic newsletter informing you about state and national trends, regulatory news, legislative and reimbursement updates, and other important issues. Other KAHCF publications include CareLink, our bi-annual magazine, which reaches over 1,500 individuals throughout Kentucky to educate them about the challenges facing long-term care providers, and Heroes of Long-Term Care, a newsletter published three times each year that provides positive profiles of the staff, residents, volunteers, families and facilities in the Commonwealth.

Annual Convention and Trade Show
KAHCF holds the largest convention and trade show in Kentucky for the long- term care professional. The event includes over 30 educational sessions covering the spectrum of long-term care topics. Continuing education credits are offered for administrators, social workers, registered nurses, activity directors, certified dietary managers, registered dietitians, and other staff members.

Social and entertainment events are scheduled for fun and networking. We also recognize the state's top volunteers, administrators and other staff members, and facilities through our Annual Awards Competition.
