Seminar Description

Course Description:

This session will assist SNF providers in effective implementation of competency based staff development and training programs through lecture and break-out train the trainer sessions. A review of regulatory requirements regarding Staff Competency with an analysis of the associated Interpretive Guidance. A review of the Sufficient & Competent Nurse Staffing Critical Element Pathway and/or Surveyor Probes used to guide the investigative process related to staff competency will be discussed. Actual citation examples related to staff competency will be shared and discussed. Tools to assist the facility team in monitoring assessing staff competency will be discussed. The session will include train-the-trainer break-out sessions demonstrating how to assess staff competency in the following areas: Behavioral Health; Cultural Competency; Trauma Informed Care; and Changes in Condition. Each participant will have the opportunity to attend two break-out sessions.

Objectives

Projected Learning Outcomes/Course Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the learner will:

  1. Identify the regulatory requirements related staff competency
  2. Identify processes for assessing competency upon hire and on an on-going basis.
  3. Identify examples of how staff competency are commonly cited in the new LTCSP
  4. Identify tools for the leadership team to use for assessing staff competency

Speaker Info

Shelly Maffia is a Registered Nurse and Nursing Home Administrator with over 15 years of experience serving in long term care leadership and consulting positions, including positions as Director of Nursing, Administrator, and Corporate Nurse Consultant and Training Positions. She earned the QAPI Certified Professional (QCP) credential from the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC), which was established to promote the highest standards for QAPI program implementation in the long-term care profession. 

Eleisha Wilkes is a Registered Nurse with over fifteen years of experience in long term care. She has served as a Director of Nursing, Case Manager and Resident Assessment Coordinator with extensive responsibility and success in driving QA in the areas of person centered assessment and care planning through effective systems, staff development, and interdisciplinary team collaboration. She now serves as an RN Clinical Consultant with Proactive Medical Review & Consulting, LLC.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made in writing and emailed to kahcfinfo@kahcf.org or faxed to (502-425-3431). Cancellations by phone will not be accepted. Cancellations received no later than August 24 will receive a full refund. Cancellations received between August 24-29 will receive a refund of 1/2. Registrants who do not attend or who do not complete the full seminar will not receive a refund unless prior written notice is given to the KAHCF office.
