The State Operations Manual, Appendix PP includes the regulations that long-term care providers must follow to participate in Medicare and Medicaid. Most of these regulations for nursing homes are already in full force, but there is one last phase of implementation that goes into effect November 28, 2019. It includes a requirement for “trauma informed care.” This is a popular phrase these days – you’ve probably heard it mentioned following 9/11, school shootings and disclosures of sexual assault - but what is it and what do YOU need to do in your facility? Learn why it can be useful for you in everyday life and how to shift your organization’s culture to be more trauma-informed at this in-person training.

Speakers

Ashlea Christiansen, M. Ed., J.D.

Currently serves as the Director of Regulatory Affairs here at the Association. Just before joining us, she led the efforts to incorporate a crime victims’ bill of rights into the Kentucky Constitution. Previously, she ran her own law firm proudly serving survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and intimate partner abuse, worked as a child sexual abuse therapist for Seven Counties and DV/rape crisis advocate for the Center for Women and Families.

She’s the proud mom of a strong, analytical and only occasionally sassy 16 year-old daughter.  They happily live in a renovated barn in the country with their ragtag family of rescue animals.
